The performance you're seeing is quite typical for that setup. Running at 20 FPS on maximum settings is standard once the system stabilizes.

4K path tracing without DLSS, frame generation or ray reconstruction. I played a similar game on a comparable 7800x3D/4090 setup at 4K ultra quality, including DLSS on Quality, Frame Gen and Ray Reconstruction, and it looked amazing in the 70-90s. The performance was impressive.

They exceeded expectations with the need for detailed specifications, achieving smooth performance at 30 frames per second.

I enabled DLSS at quality settings and FPS improved significantly; the game feels very smooth to play.

If you want to see it this way, fine. It's built to work alongside DLSS and FG for a tech demonstration, and together they perform quite well. I don't believe we're even near the GPU capabilities needed for native path tracing in such a detailed game. Obviously.

Sure, I don't believe "tech showcase" captures the right idea. It feels like an easy way out instead of focusing on improving your own project. What you're thinking of is probably the best option?

They introduced an experimental, optional feature that surpasses the capabilities of most AAA games out there. It doesn’t run smoothly or feel well-tuned in your opinion, making it a drawback. I’d rather avoid living with such a situation.
