You're right about how challenging path tracing is. We're still far from having the technology to make it efficient enough for real use, especially without advanced features like DLSS or high frame rates. The RTX 4090 with DLSS might help a bit, but it's probably out of reach for most people's budgets right now.

It's intriguing how developers include such challenging graphics options, almost like they're trying to mimic Crysis. But it seems they're not just adding random features.

Perhaps you shouldn't crank everything to the highest levels all the time, since it can be wasteful. Try using better configurations that maintain your performance. The developers aren't always adjusting for these changes, and certain features like ray tracing and path tracing require hardware that isn't fully available yet. Find the optimal settings for your needs, but claiming your expensive machine should run at maximum often comes across as unrealistic. There are several guides comparing visuals, showing that max settings usually only match medium or high quality, sometimes even more.

If I understood the difference wasn't huge, I'd just choose the 4080 super, saving 1200 euros.

They team up with a graphic supplier to present their technology... Is this resembling Crysis?

The notion of being a challenging game is obvious.

There seems to be some mix-up regarding game modes like normal, RT, and PT. You don’t need to enable PT on your 3060 systems.

Some games work on the Steam Deck when you lower the resolution settings.

For entertainment? Since they teamed up with Nvidia to highlight the technology? The features are impressive but meant for special use cases, not everyday play. The addition came after launch, alongside other improvements, so calling it a shortcut to avoid optimization isn't accurate. ^^^ It's understandable to grumble about the performance challenges, especially since the tool is clearly designed to run smoothly with it.
