I’m really frustrated right now. It’s been over an hour trying to install Windows on my PC, and everything seems to be going wrong. I used a brand new USB drive and followed the steps, but it keeps failing at 40%. I’m starting to feel hopeless and don’t know what to do anymore.

Windows often hangs at 40% and won’t restart right away. Give it roughly ten minutes, though it usually recovers on its own. You’ll have time to step away and grab a coffee.

The issue appears to be a failure with no errors; the system simply restarts.

the process reports an error and forces a full system restart, requiring another installation despite the failure.

a few suggestions come to mind. it seems your pc likely only has usb3 ports if it's brand new. however, if you have a usb 2 port—usually black or white—consider using that instead of the usb3 ones. next, when selecting disks, try loading the driver manually. you may need to download and unpack the disk controller drivers, then install them onto the usb stick where windows is installed. choose a folder for these files and see if other drivers appear to install correctly. sometimes windows doesn't have the necessary drivers for new controllers, so these steps can help.

First, identify the mainboard you're using. Next, visit the vendor driver download page for your mainboard; there should be hard disk controller drivers available. Save those files using 7zip or a similar tool, then place them in a folder on your installation USB drive. During installation, locate the extracted files on the USB and ensure the driver is listed somewhere—click it and navigate to the folder. If a search option appears, enable it to find related folders. Once compatible drivers are detected, select one and verify that the drives appear correctly. The installation may fail at around 40% if no suitable drivers exist for your chipset, causing connection drops when switching between modes. Alternatively, if your board lacks USB3 support for newer chipsets, USB2 ports might be necessary, though this can also lead to connection issues during the switch to full 64-bit mode without proper drivers. After installation, updating chipset drivers is crucial so Windows recognizes all hardware properly.
