My motherboard is an MSI B550 A Pro. I’ve assembled my own system and believe the CPU 8-pin BIOS update works correctly. However, the 24-pin connector doesn’t power the board properly. When I tried using a paper clip through the green cable and the adjacent pin, the PSU fan spun, but it didn’t work for me. It seems the 24-pin isn’t supplying enough power for my setup, preventing me from accessing BIOS.

I’m unsure if updating drivers is the solution. The motherboard came with a disk drive, so I wonder if those drivers are needed. Since I don’t have an optical drive player, can I download drivers from my laptop via USB, similar to how I did for Flash BIOS? Or could it be that the board itself is faulty and needs replacement?

I purchased this motherboard directly from Newegg a year ago, without a warranty, because I was planning to build a PC then. It’s time-sensitive as components are now scarce and expensive. Ensure all components are properly linked and double-check that you're connecting the P4 8-pin CPU power connector to the CPU pin, not the PCIe power connector. (Avoid the common error my partner made). Skip the RAM section and listen for any beeps—four long ones indicate a RAM problem.

I update my board to the newest release using the 8-pin connector on the CPU and 24-pin on the board. I extracted the latest version folder, renamed it to MSI.ROM. I prepared the USB drive in fat32 format, transferred the file and documents to the USB stick. Then I initiated the BIOS flash, which caused the red light to blink opposite the board. After a few minutes, only the white light remained. I removed the USB, powered off the computer, then restarted the PSU and case power. Still, there was no electricity. When the CPU 8-pin plugged in, the BIOS function worked, but with just the 24-pin, nothing happened. It seems possible I may have received a faulty board, though Newegg likely sent a short circuit. Should I try the BIOS update again?

It came with just one cable labeled PSU on one side and CPU on the other. The CPU side features a split 4-4 pin connector while the board connects to 8 pins. Insert where the latches align.
