I'm planning to refresh my CPU/Mobo/RAM to catch current deals and ensure compatibility with Windows 11, as support for Windows 10 is coming to an end. My main focus is gaming, but I’m not seeking a major performance increase—just some future-proofing and extra space for a better graphics card when sales are good or my existing card becomes insufficient. When comparing the 14900K, 9950X, and 14900K, the latter seems to offer a better balance of price and performance. Did I overlook anything? Are there any sales I should have noticed? The specifications indicate the cooler fits the case, but PCPartPicker suggests you might need an adapter; is this accurate? If yes, where can I find one or would it be wiser to purchase a new cooler instead? (My old cooler still maintains temperatures around 40°C.)

Thanks a lot for your time and assistance!

Approximate Purchase Date: This week
Budget Range: $800 USD before tax for CPU/Mobo/RAM (excluding Windows 11)
System Usage from Most to Least Important: gaming, blu-ray

Monitor: No
Upgrade Items: CPU/Mobo/RAM
OS Purchase: No
Preferred Retailers: Newegg, Amazon, B&H
Location: Texas
Parts Preferences: Intel or AMD (preferably Intel)
Overclocking: Yes
Multiple GPUs: No
Monitor Resolution: up to 4K

Additional Notes: Clair Obscur and Baldur's Gate 3 are the most demanding games for graphics, though I’m not expecting a graphics upgrade with this change. Most importantly, why am I doing this? Free Windows security updates will stop in October, so I want to benefit from today’s discounts.

Parts to Buy:
- Intel Core i9-14900K 3.2 GHz 24-Core Processor – $364.00 (Amazon)
- Asus Z790 GAMING WIFI7 ATX LGA1700 Motherboard – $159.99 (Newegg)
- G.Skill Flare X5 32 GB DDR5-6000 CL36 – $83.99 (Amazon)
- Crucial P3 Plus 2 TB M.2-2280 PCIe 4.0 X4 NVME SSD
- Noctua NH-D15 82.5 CFM CPU Cooler
- ASRock Radeon RX6700XT CLD 12G Radeon RX 6700 XT 12 GB Video Card

Thanks for bringing that to my attention. I didn't notice the CL30, but I'm glad you found the 7800X3D impressive. AMD has definitely made significant progress over the past ten years. Thanks!

If you're seeking long-term support for AM5, it's the better choice as it remains compatible until around 2027. LGA 1700 is already out of production. The 7800X3D configuration suggested by why_me should provide you with sufficient time, after which you could upgrade for enhanced performance if necessary.
