Network at home stops working during downloads.
Hello, I just updated my home network setup. You can view the configuration in the attached image. All three 3 cat 6a cables seem to be under stress at some point—maybe they’re damaged. My problem is that when downloading at full speed on my PC, the router disconnects from the internet after roughly 10 to 60 minutes. The router lights are normal, and I can still access the management page (192.168.x.x) without issues. I’ve tried connecting directly to the router with other devices too, but it still won’t get online. Restarting the router resolves the issue. I also attempted to replicate the problem by connecting my PC straight to the router and downloading data, but there was no loss of connectivity this time. (Note: via a different temporary cable). I’m seeking advice on identifying the root cause so I can resolve it without relying on easy fixes like swapping cables. I don’t have advanced tools, but I’m open to purchasing something if needed. The statements seem to conflict because they present opposing ideas about how to approach problem-solving. One suggests focusing on likely causes, while the other implies uncertainty or complexity. This contrast highlights the need for careful analysis to determine the best path forward.
The initial action was handled using the switch, as shown in the picture. I also overlooked that the second step used another cable. I’m okay fixing things, but it’s frustrating when I have to replace 55 meters of cables or purchase a costly new switch only to face the same problem. They had to navigate through very narrow spaces and cat6a cables aren’t very flexible.
It's confusing why it doesn't feel overwhelming when you're linked directly.
It’s probable that multiple gadgets are simultaneously using the internet during downloads, consuming more bandwidth and increasing the likelihood of system crashes when compared to using just one device.
The modem has functioned well over the years with consistent connections and multiple devices, never experiencing this problem regardless of download intensity. According to @Lurick, I kept the switch connected to the modem when linking my PC directly. Additionally, I tried disconnecting the Xiaomi access point together, but the issue persisted.
Clear to understand. Even though the switch stays connected, only a single device can access the internet during testing. If a different cable works temporarily, that might be the cause. You can begin there. If the problem continues, it could involve the modem or router together. An older unit may be faulty, as electronic parts can fail over time—sometimes due to overheating, leading to crashes. If possible, you could reset the router and clear any corrupted settings.
