I might have misunderstood the system details. They created their own CPU Baikal for server use, and company BaseALT designed a custom Linux distribution to run with it. Note: Their PC collection is known as Tavolga.

It seems you're referencing a statement about Microsoft's position. Only Microsoft confirmed their stance, and they didn't support the idea.

Russia has some valid concerns, but they also tend to misuse them. Reducing American companies' control over the internet benefits the U.S. government by limiting foreign data access. However, Russia will likely exploit this situation for its own advantage against its citizens.

And for Russian businesses and regular folks, restricting Windows nationwide (beyond government use) would represent a significant leap from outdated Windows 98 and XP—systems that are vulnerable to breaches. Switching to a backdoored Linux distribution would ensure only the government maintains control, rather than open access for everyone. At least the software gets modernized.

It would be fascinating to observe their completed work since their tools here are quite unique... (3 seats needed to run a machine that operates with just 1)

It's puzzling that Apple hasn't filed a lawsuit yet. They probably won't receive much compensation from them.
