Need help with system hangs
Need help with system hangs
I constructed the following setup in July 2023:
Win 11 Pro | i7-12700K | Gigabyte Aorus Elite AX D4 | Deepcool AK620 Dark CPU Cooler | XFX Speedster MERC319 Radeon RX 6900 XT Black Gaming | Cosair Vengeance LPX 2x16GB DDR4 3200 CL16 | Samsung 980 Pro 2TB M.2 SSD (x2) | Samsung 850 EVO 500GB SATA SSD | Lian Li Lancool 216RGB ATX Case | MAINGEAR IGNITION 1200 Watt 80 Plus Platinum PSU
It operated smoothly for several months until I performed the following changes:
23H2 Upgrade with Windows Insider Program (reverted to 22H2, no improvement)
Latest Radeon drivers (since then reverted to older version)
Updated drivers using GCC (Gigabyte Control System)
Now it frequently hangs for 10 to 20 seconds. The display dims and the mouse disappears. This morning I was performing screen prints of errors to share here, and it occurred. It seems to happen more often with YouTube videos, especially when exiting fullscreen, though not always. It also appears in Excel. Once it starts, it persists and increases in frequency, sometimes multiple times per minute or two. I logged out and back in to regain control and rebooted. I scanned for viruses using Windows Defender.
The only clue I found during troubleshooting is that the Game Bar stopped responding, displaying the Problem Event Name of MoAppHangXProc.
Hey there,
Consider resetting the CMOS and configuring the BIOS to its default settings. After completing this, run a test again. Which BIOS version are you using?
You might also want to check your RAM using memtest86+ to eliminate any RAM-related problems.
I have F9 BIOS, which isn't listed on the Gigabyte site. The latest available is F7, which can be downloaded. GCC seems to have been updated.
I'm using MEMTEST86+, it feels like watching paint dry. I'm on my BudgetBox, a Ryzen 5 3600 I purchased last Black Friday from Micro Center for $130 (CPU & MB).
MEMTEST86+ kept operating all night. I halted it at 18 hours with 12 attempts on a 32GB DDR4 memory, and there were no errors! 😛
So the issue isn't there.
Immediately after posting the information, I launched an Excel file which froze and made it difficult to regain control. This marks the first error in msinfo32 WER.
Consider executing the file checker tool:
https://www.dell.com/support/kbdoc/...running the file checker
This may resolve any issues. Your OS might have errors.
Scan Results: Windows Resource Protection did not detect any integrity issues.
Useful tool, I wasn't familiar with it. Appreciate!
Another new method. I tested it and it detected something using /ScanHealth. Then I ran it again with /RestoreHealth. Here are the outcomes:
PS C:\Users\Johns12700K> DISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth
Deployment Image Servicing and Management tool
Version: 10.0.22621.2552
Image Version: 10.0.22635.2700
[==========================100.0%==========================] The restoration process finished without issues.
The restoration was successful.
