My aim is to make my old desktop more functional and efficient for work. It has some parts that can be reused. I'm considering swapping the Intel Core Duo CPU and the old motherboard to run Windows 10. The components I can still use are: Gigabyte GeForce GTX 650, Samsung 500GB hard disk, and a 400w PSU.
The Core 2 Duo supports both 32-bit and 64-bit architectures. The issue likely lies with your operating system being the 32-bit version. It doesn't really matter whether it uses DDR2 or DDR3 for your needs. Having 4GB of RAM is sufficient, but 8GB is recommended.
4GB DDR2 modules tend to be costly, yet your board only accommodates two slots, making 8GB memory less affordable in comparison to the price of a ZcPu and the board itself. In most cases, adding an SSD would suffice.
It should work fine with around 4GB of RAM, as long as the motherboard is compatible.
