Hey! I assembled my first HTPC back in 2014. I purchased a 4U server for $30 at a discount, intending to use the case for an abandoned project. I collected the CPU (i7-980), motherboard, RAM, a 250GB SSD, and a $40 power supply. The only missing piece was a case. I spent some time in my dad's workshop and discovered a spare pegboard. With a lot of zip ties and careful sawing, I managed to install everything correctly. That was a while ago—some components failed, others got better, but this build has kept its core intact: the case.
I had my very first CPU which was a 990X from the LGA 1366 X58 platform. Many people think I shouldn’t spend money on such an old system, but for me, just because it’s outdated doesn’t mean I should throw it away. My current storage server uses an old 2011 DDR3 setup because the components are affordable. After building my friend’s gaming PC, I used the spare motherboard and RAM to create a personal project for fun and enjoyment.
