Hey there, I'm trying to figure this out. I just got a new build with these specs: Asus Crosshair VIII Hero (WI-FI) x570 board, AMD Ryzen 3700X and Ryzen 9. I've got the Asus Strix NVIDIA RTX 2080, Corsair HX750i power supply, G.SKILL TridentZ RGB 32GB (4x8GB, 3200MHz), and it's a custom loop. But I can't get it to boot. On startup, the Q-code LED shows error code 02—meaning AP initialization failed before microcode loading (after D6 and D7). The white VGA and yellow boot lights come on. I suspect a graphics card issue, but I'm not sure what to do next. I've updated the BIOS, plugged in the extra 4-pin CPU cable, re-seated the card, reset the memory, and even tried swapping in a Ryzen 3 temporarily. It worked then too. Any advice? What should I try next?
Test the GPU in various PCIe slots. Change the power supply unit. Remove all boot media and unnecessary devices. Use a different type of RAM. Give up a goat if needed.
It seems like a simple fix might work again. I faced the same problem with my ASUS X570 Prime Pro and 3700x a few weeks back. After checking everything, it turned out the issue was with my monitor. Once I unplugged it, things improved. The error codes were the same on both devices, so maybe a different monitor will help.
I chose a display port connection instead of HDMI, and it worked perfectly. The motherboard keeps showing the same indicators (VGA + boot light, plus the Qcode 02 error) until I reach the BIOS screen. It seems like either a temporary glitch or something that was always there. No problem—I already have an operating system ready to install. Thanks!
asus rog strix x570 1080 had the same problem on first boot. Changed to display port and it worked immediately in bios.
I experienced the same problem with the Asus TUF x570 when paired with a Ryzen 5 3600 and a Zotac gtx 1060 graphics card. After checking online resources, I discovered that the built-in video feature isn’t functional since the Ryzen 5 only offers integrated graphics in its G-series models. To fix it, I switched to a 750ti GPU I had available, installed the required drivers for that board, and then rebooted with the 1060. everything is now working properly. I hope this information assists others facing similar issues.
Same setup was tried. Another monitor made it work. Connection was via HDMI. Before that, I had a boot led on too.
