Hello, I'm looking into NVME 5.0 specifications for my project. My motherboard is the Asus ROG Strix Z790-E, which includes a NVME 5.0 slot. I want to know if this affects my existing PCIe lanes compared to the 4090. Could you clarify whether it impacts my connection?

I haven’t finalized my choice between 5.0 and 4.0 yet. I heard from others about performance issues, so I’m trying to avoid that.

On this platform your PCIe connections remain unaffected by the M.2 ports. Note: the x16 port transforms into an x8 port when using the Gen 5 M.2 slot. This shouldn't influence speed since GPUs don't rely on a complete PCIe Gen 4 x8 link. For further information, refer to the board specifications and user guide. Such problems aren't solely tied to PCIe or NVMe versions; they vary by device.

The performance should remain consistent when using a Gen 5 slot or Gen 5 drive, as long as the board or SSD meets the required standards.

On pcpartpicker, the issue involved their 5.0 model consuming excessive resources, taking over GPU lanes and causing roughly a 3% performance decline.

LGA 1700 supports only 16 gen 5 lanes. This varies by your board, but you can't run an x16 gen 5 GPU together with a gen 5 M.2 drive simultaneously. I'll use a gen 4 NVMe SSD instead. Gen 5 offers little change for most applications these days.

Noted, I considered the 4.0 aspect as well. On the other hand, I've noticed notable improvements in performance when using 5.0, especially with boot times and download speeds.

Unless the board matches precisely, I would disregard it.
