I just shared this on /r/GlobalOffensive but need some thoughts here. Mods, if you think it fits elsewhere, consider moving it. I was playing as a smurf (trust me, it’s tough... the only way to hang with my friend (GN1) besides being just a Scout and not having any scoping). I noticed how weak the Nova spectrum rankings are. Back then, CoD weapons were everywhere—Augs, SGs, P90s—and it was pretty chaotic. If you tried to take them down, you’d probably end up with a stroke and a ton of smurfs (though I’m not saying I’m helping). In my view, Nova 3 is similar to Silver but more toxic. Some players claimed Nova 1/2 weapons were better, but they were still tough to beat. The worst part was Nova 3, especially because it’s where most newcomers get stuck.
1. Unranked players often struggle, even after updates like the rank 3 change. It’s frustrating when someone lacks basic skills on your team.
2. Smurfs are a pain—people would compare their stats to Silver, but they’re actually weaker. I heard some Nova 1/2 players bragging about Silver while being outmatched.
3. CoD players tend to drop off around rank 3. They’re usually P90s, Augs, or SGs. Nova 3 seems to be the main spot where they get stuck.
4. Hackers were also a problem. Even with hacks, they couldn’t climb past Nova 3. It’s clear this issue isn’t limited to Nova 3 alone.
If you’re a hacker and aren’t at least DMG or Eagle, you’re not worth it. That’s why I call Nova 1-3 “Silvers with Fancy Stars.” Back when I was climbing through Nova, most CoD weapons died at Nova 1/2. TL;DR: I’m sorry for Nova 3—it affects Smurfs, CoD players, and first-timers alike. Share your thoughts below.
I completely agree and have been stuck in this situation for months (switching between GN3 and GNM). Of course, I lost almost all my progress when I wasn’t using my PC for three weeks or more before. Plus, there was a cooldown after my game crashed and the Windows update. The biggest issue seems to be the huge number of unranks I have to deal with.
The Nova 1-3 group has a lot of kids, making it tough to connect with good friends. Plus, there are many people giving advice on how to play, which isn’t helpful for me. I really don’t like being a passive observer.
DMG on main.. playing on friends accounts like gn3, nova master, MG1, etc. I've seen higher-ranked smurfs (LE, LEM) on the opposing side that I wiped out many times. Points matter since I pushed the team harder than they did. There are also some really toxic players out there. Often I got queued with a team that had no clue what they were doing, while the other team was decent.
I've faced very few issues with silver and gold nova honestly. Probably only a handful of smurfs appeared in 5% of my games. Throughout my CS journey, I've only met two clear hackers. Yes, gold nova is essentially silver—this has always been my view. Claims that ranks like MG1-2 are above average seem foolish to me. It's quite simple to climb high novas with weak defenses without being skilled. Even in LEM/Supreme levels (where I currently am), I still see players who act as CTs, focus on the ground...
