My laptop is beeping and won't turn on?
Hello everyone, my Acer Aspire ES1-512 laptop started shutting down all by itself and I tried every software fix online. I opened it up to get rid of the dust in the computer and on the fan because there was a lot of stuff inside. After cleaning everything out and putting the cables back together, the laptop won't turn on at all. I plugged it into an outlet but instead of lights coming on, I see an orange light blinking weirdly. It also blinks when I press the power button in a try to get it started. I took the battery out and put it back in, then something really bad happened. The motherboard started making a continuous buzzing sound. Sometimes there is that buzzing noise with an orange light flashing on the power light. When I try to start it up, there is a low ringing sound coming from the laptop but nothing actually powers on. Can anyone tell me what's wrong?
While you are cleaning your laptop, did you accidentally touch any ribbon cables? Did you forget to push them in when you unplugged them? Is the buzzing sound coming from the speakers, an inductor, or something else? Have you reconnected the battery? Does the user guide say what the orange light does? How old is this computer? If it has been more than three years, you might need a new battery. If nothing works here, take it to a repair shop or bring it back for testing while still under warranty.
No, I didn't touch any of those ribbon wires. All my cables are actually plugged in right. I think that buzzing sound is coming from the inductor, yeah I got the battery back together. When I looked into it more closely, it seemed like there might be a problem with the power source. I had had battery issues before and bought a new one about four years ago, but that was working great until I updated the software. Now my warranty is all gone. Sorry for the late reply; life gets busy sometimes.
After 4 years you might need to change the battery again. NiMH and Lithium batteries don't last forever. If the battery breaks down, noise from the "inductor" could mean your charger is struggling with too much power. If the inductor has more than two leads, it's likely a transformer.
Hello, I changed the battery and now the laptop turns on again. It used to shut down all the time, so I reset the system but kept my important files. Sometimes it gets really hot and makes a loud noise when I open the disk manager. And the shutdowns are still happening randomly sometimes.
Did you check the CMOS battery voltage? It might not cause sudden power outages, but it could sometimes make your computer won't start up at all. In a regular PC with desktops, the battery is usually just a small CR2032 cell sitting in a socket. But on laptops, because there isn't much room for parts, you'll often see that tiny CMOS battery wrapped in heatshrink and connected to the motherboard by two thin black and red wires. You might have to look harder if it's hidden somewhere. If you need one, you can find them on eBay for a few dollars, but make sure you get the right miniature plug on the end of the wires so it fits. If you have a multimeter, measure the voltage on your old battery. A brand new battery reads 3.25 volts. I usually replace batteries when they drop below 2.75 volts (just to be safe), but they can still work even down to 2.00 volts. If the battery gets really low, you might see the computer's built-in clock show a weird date, like in 2017. Windows will fix this date problem once you log on, but if you turn it off and back on again, the clock could revert to 2017 next time you start your PC.
I took the tiny battery out, put it back in, and watched YouTube say it might fix why my laptop wouldn't start. They said fixing that part of the computer restarts the BIOS settings. When I turned it on again, the time and date changed, but the computer fixed itself. So I'm going to swap the battery and see what happens. Thanks so much for the help—I really appreciate it!
