Moving operating system from laptop to PC
Sorry, I wasn't aware of that. It seems OEM keys likely won't function properly. Additionally, using them on another computer is also against the rules.
You're unsure about the next steps. You intend to use your hard drive during a fresh Windows install? That should work fine. You plan to disconnect the drive and connect it to your desktop? It might not be possible due to several reasons. But you can reuse your Windows key for a new installation on your desktop if you don’t have an OEM version. If you lack a platform-independent version, you could purchase a new Windows 8.1 release, which is available for around 30€ for the Professional edition.
Windows 8.1 should work without issues, as long as the previous system isn’t still running that version. I upgraded from a laptop to a desktop using Windows 10 and then installed it on my new machine. It required some adjustments to get activated. Microsoft recommends restoring your original OS if you’re starting fresh. If your setup was Windows 7, you’d follow a different path—activate 8.1 first, then reinstall later if needed. This process functioned well for me.
I must set up the desktop software but the system functions properly afterward. Uninstall only the drivers that are necessary for startup programs such as the touchpad or OS, not all old ones. Just reactivate your window.
You can easily purchase a global edition online. According to what I understand, Windows isn’t restricted by region. (I haven’t bought Windows recently…)
You purchased something on Reddit, but I’m unsure if it’s fully allowed. I believe it’s okay and you should rely on the individual, though I noted you bought several keys from the same person.
