check the issue with a recent BIOS update. The problem seems inconsistent—sometimes it doesn’t occur, other times it’s mild lag, and occasionally the mouse becomes almost unresponsive with no disk activity. Plugging in a hard drive through the back USB3 port helps. Make sure the motherboard matches the specs and consider testing with a different mouse if possible.

The initial thought is the hard drive is consuming too much power when connected to a USB hub powered by a computer.

It might be due to a failure in one or more of your external HDDs. I recommend testing the system with a single external HDD at a time. Typically, you can identify the problematic drive by disconnecting and reconnecting it to see which one triggers the issues.

I usually connect one hard drive at a time, but I noticed this happens with everyone. Using a different port makes it stop completely, though I think the red port is the fastest one I have. Maybe I should try other ports instead? I don’t think the drives are broken because it doesn’t occur on another port or my laptop either.

The problem seems to stem only from the USB port, regardless of the drive type. If the port is labeled SS, it's likely a 3.0 port. Red ports are typically 3.0 or 3.2, but you won't notice much speed variation with external mechanical HDDs.

i think its somehow interfering with the Bluetooth of the mouse cause its actually plugged in right next to that port, but i cant really change it because its literally plugged in the slowest port (the i/o of this board is a mess unfortunately) so yeah, there are workarounds, i just thought maybe there's a specific fix or something, on the other hand i don't want to update the bios on chance, since its msi afterall and i don't have the best experience with that (gotta be grateful the current one is working, but ill look into that anyway i guess)

Have you explored a powered USB C to USB3 hub? It might be related to power consumption. HDDs usually use more power than SSDs.

because I don't own one. that makes sense too. my old B350 motherboard and laptop didn’t support it, and even with three external drives connected there was no lag. still worth a shot, I think.
