I looked into this and found that the motherboard has 7 VRMs, which might explain the unusual power phase design you mentioned—possibly a 6+1 configuration. I didn’t plan to overclock, as it uses the H chipset, and I’m just trying to get familiar with identifying components.

This shows you have both highside and lowside mostfets on your boards. Each pair of chips next to each other corresponds to a "1 VRM" configuration, with one side high and the other low. This gives a clear idea of how it functions:

Other setups can combine multiple VRMs into a single mosfet chip.

This shows you have both highside and lowside mostfets on your boards. Each pair of chips next to each other corresponds to a "1 VRM" configuration, with one side high and the other low. This gives a clear idea of how it functions:

That's 4 plus 2. Check the big grey boxes around the processors, then look at the small chips next to them; the bigger one is a VRM. There are six in total.

What is the item on the right? It also has one bigger box, but it's darker than the chokes. And there are MOSFETs next to it, I think. At least they seem similar to me.

Good catch yes, this is a 6+1 power phase, that choke there (well the VRM next to it) is the +1.
Thanks for answering. What about this? It's a 8+2 motherboard (GA-970A-UD3P), but I can see 10 next to the CPU + 4 additional ones next to the RAM. Or is that something else?

The chokes aren't always easy to identify; you should focus on the VRM chips. In this situation, the heatsink is covering them, making it difficult to determine.

I see 2-3 chips next to each choke on the first motherboard, but I can't determine what the real VRM is.
