Hey, I found myself in a strange situation while fixing my friend's PC. I've swapped out several RAM sticks, but most of them aren't working. The machine just beeps three times and restarts on its own. The RAM that's functioning seems to have a weird issue, only displaying half of the expected capacity. I've tested with 16x2 DDR4 from Corsair and 8x2 DDR4 from XPG, but both only show half the supposed RAM. On another machine, it shows 32GB and 16GB respectively. I'm not sure if the problem is with the motherboard or the CPU.
If BIOS displays full capacity but Windows doesn’t, you might use msconfig to restrict RAM usage. However, your screenshot indicates BIOS only reflects one stick’s capacity. It seems the RAM issue stems from another system where only the board or CPU memory controller is affected.
It appears only a portion of the display shows the information. Your image clearly indicates 32GB of RAM, but it seems the installation wasn't done properly. Relocate the RAM to slots A2 and B2 (Dimm2 and 4).
Did you attempt to reset the CMOS or install a BIOS update? Your system's BIOS appears outdated.
Unless your home experiences frequent power outages or there's a thunderstorm in the area, it's really not that risky. If that's not the issue either, my guess would be a defective memory channel. It works well enough for Windows to be able to detect the stick, but isn't actually usable.
