I discovered an Acer 5536 at your cousin's place, and she suggested I could keep it and use it however I like. Ideally, I’d turn it into a basic home internet browsing device—something simple rather than powerful. I’m searching for a lightweight operating system to make it run smoothly as a straightforward PC. What should I consider trying? I already installed Gnome Ubuntu in x64, but it seems a bit too heavy for the machine.

I haven't tried it before, but Chrome OS devices tend to be on the lower end of specifications.

Consider Lubuntu or Puppy Linux—they’re quite light.

Consider ChromeOS, Lubuntu, and ElemetaryOS as viable options. Also, RemixOS, an Android-on-x86 initiative, might be worth exploring.

I might attempt to start with Basic, as I recall it was quite a pleasant operating system.

Elementary appears really appealing to me, I'm excited about it. I'll download it soon and check back later to see how the PC responded.
