Mint could perform well, but it might face some challenges. Lubuntu, Xubuntu, and possibly Debian with XFCE/LXDE work nicely. Arch Linux is an option if you're prepared for a more complex setup process and want to invest extra time in configuring the system.

Ended up using Windows 10 on x86, performed better than anything else. I also had an extra home copy available.
