Memory Allocated 16 GB (7.95 GB free) for Hardare: 8 GB
Hey everyone, my computer has been having issues for a while now. It’s slowing down a lot, not just because of the low usable storage—only 7.95GB remains—but also since I don’t think the dual-channel setup is being used properly. In the BIOS, the 16GB is listed correctly. I’ve checked msconfig and everything seems fine. I updated and reinstalled the BIOS, reset the CMOS, cleaned the RAM with an eraser, swapped out memory sticks, and even tried a new processor. Since I have a Ryzen 5 2600X with an AMD RX580, 8GB RAM, 16GB storage, and dual-channel support, I’m hoping someone can help me resolve this. Thanks in advance!
Yes, you can perform a similar check. It can assess the entire 16 GB memory space. You might also look in Device Manager if that memory section is linked to a device. Often, reserving such a large amount suggests an unsupported configuration. Your RAM runs at 2133 MHz—consider enabling XMP on both dimming settings, as it may be active only on one.
Yes, it seems reasonable. The memory isn't locked up as hardware, supporting the unsupported mode idea. Did you ever start your computer using only a single RAM stick? In CPU-Z, you can navigate to the SPD section and see how each module displays its status.
I noticed that setting 3000 MHz in the XMP file results in 2133 MHz showing up in the task manager.
You should obtain error rates, crashes, and data integrity reports to assess the memory stability and reliability of the system.
