I was worried I’d be limited to 3.5 Ghz because it kept failing above that, but now it’s working smoothly at 4 @ 1.375v. All this from a non-X model 2700! I also got the chip brand new at Micro Center for just $179—great value and impressive performance. It’s been handling streaming really well, even on my first few attempts.
The choice of X or non-X plays minimal role overall. The differences between the cores across all chips in the Pinnacle Ridge range are negligible. Devices positioned earlier in the stack have undergone more testing and are confirmed to operate at their stated performance levels.
I initially thought the distinction between the X and non-X variants might lie in the fact that the X models were top-notch, perhaps even leading the 2700 series. At least the savings of about $100 is a welcome improvement for such comparable performance.
I recently installed this motherboard with the X470 chipset and attempted overclocking using Ryzen Master. It automatically reset me back to version 3.4. Should I skip the BIOS setup and jump straight into overclocking? I’ve never worked with an ASUS BIOS and feel a bit confused.
