It occurred more than a week ago but wasn’t a burnt smell at the back of the PSU, coming from the upper left side of the motherboard. Close to my CPU cooler and VRM area.
Remove your CPU cooler and verify that your CPU and socket are in good condition. If the problem persists, inspect the VRM.
I'll share pictures tomorrow of the CPU and motherboard without the case fans and coolers.
There doesn’t appear to be anything out of the ordinary, but if the odor originates from the MOBO, it’s likely no longer functional. I’d inspect the CPU power cable near the top left corner just to be sure.
It could be the power supply unit that failed. It seems unusual for a CPU to overheat unexpectedly without high voltage or temperature. What are your thoughts?
It might just be the lighting, but the part shown in the photo appears damaged in both images I noticed it in.
