Hello everyone, I encountered an unusual issue while playing BF1. After about ten minutes, my computer suddenly shut down completely, leaving only a black screen. When I tried to restart it, nothing happened. I unplugged all components, turned off the power supply, and after fifteen minutes, everything reconnected and the PC started working normally. Once logged in, I checked temperatures and everything seemed fine—CPU at 35°C, GPU at 33°C. However, after a few minutes, the screen went dark. Initially, I thought it was due to screen energy saving because I was away and nothing moved on the desktop. But the keyboard lights and sounds continued briefly while a YouTube video played in the background. Then I heard a strange noise followed by a burning smell. I realized something must have blown up or caught fire. There was a flash of light, likely from the motherboard LED near the top-left corner. I was close to my room from the PC and had a tempered glass case. At first, I thought it was the power supply that failed, but when I turned it back on, an orange LED lit up on my motherboard, indicating it was getting power and under pressure. Do you think the CPU died? I haven’t tried turning it back on with the smell. My system has a Ryzen 5 2600, an Asus X470 gaming laptop, two 8GB RAM sticks, a GTX 980, and an EVGA 650GQ PSU. I disabled DOCP in Asus BIOS, which locked my CPU at 3.85GHz, and RAM was running at 3200MHz. The CPU was cooled with DarkRock 4 and never experienced overheating or crashes or blue screens since I built the PC in July. My PC is fully up to date.
