You wouldn't need it because the chances of getting a virus are very low on both mac and windows systems. It's not worth the effort for most people.

On Macs, you're still vulnerable to malware, though it might be more challenging to get infected compared to Windows. Avast for Mac works well and is useful for regular scans and protection.

Never encountered Sophos being resource-intensive. Preferred a lightweight solution. @Arty You don’t really need it on Windows either, though most users find it beneficial. Macs might use it less often, but the malware targeting Mac OS tends to be far more aggressive.
