I've recently installed a Ryzen 5 1600 with an RX 570 and observed that my CPU usage was minimal in Minecraft. I thought it was just the game, but other titles were using less than expected CPU power. In Minecraft I achieve about 400-600 FPS with roughly 14% CPU utilization. My girlfriend uses an i5-9600K with a GTX 1050 and gets around 800-1.2k with approximately 70% CPU usage. Both have 16GB RAM, my CPU isn't throttling, and I'm using high performance mode, wanting Minecraft to utilize more of my CPU. Anyone have suggestions or tips?

Why? You say you're getting 400-600fps which I think is too much. Also, your girlfriends i5 is a 6c/6t while yours is a 6c/12t. I don't know how Minecraft uses the cores, but your CPU usage seems fine. That's similar to saying your car can go 140 mph but the engine isn't doing enough for you.

You don't need to worry about cpu usage. It's okay if the gpu usage is between 95 and 100%.

Understanding the reason for the difference in your CPU usage involves checking other system metrics and processes running on your device.

Since you're using a 6c/12t processor while she has a 6c/6t, you're running more threads. Minecraft isn't too tough on the system, and your GPU isn't working hard.

Sorry, I need more context. Could you clarify what you meant by "worsen your performance"?

Is this about her i5 9600k? I don't think she has the SMT.

I understand her point, but I've learned that turning off SMT can actually boost frame rates in some games. So disabling it might help.
