I'm not completely confident about Minecraft. You might want to try it, but probably not at 400-600 fps. My estimate suggests it could really affect performance significantly.

Yes, SMT does reduce CPU utilization.

It might be worth considering that Minecraft could run more smoothly on single threads, since modern CPUs handle them better. The number of threads your CPU has doesn't really matter in that scenario. You might want to disable SMT, though it probably won't help much. If you really want to compete with your girlfriend's hardware, a small GPU overclock seems like a more effective way to improve performance. I've had a RX570 and seen around a 10% boost in 'heaven' scores even after only a slight 100 MHz increase.

My device was brought in from the factory with an overclock, and Minecraft requires more CPU power than graphics card but that's okay.

It seems your GPU is likely running at a similar factory overclock as yours—around 1240 mhz or slightly higher. You might want to try boosting your CPU in small steps, like 50-100 mhz increments; some users have reached around 3.9ghz with high-end CPUs. I'm sorry for misunderstanding your request earlier... your girlfriend probably has a newer CPU with better performance. In the end, you're achieving about 600 fps, which isn't bad. LOL

everything is fine, the main reason I want more FPS is to capture at a higher rate when using OBS. Right now I record at 240fps with CPU encoding and end up around 350fps. I should have mentioned this earlier, sorry about that. I aim to reach 360fps, but my FPS drops to about 300 at that setting. Also, GPU encoding isn't available—I posted about it before explaining why I ended up over-encoding.

More or less yes. SMT "doubles" the number of locations where the operating system can manage tasks. If the program generates enough workload to average across four cores, enabling SMT will actually cut CPU consumption in half since only half of the scheduling slots will be utilized. Also remember that CPU usage refers to whether the processor was actively processing tasks rather than just idling.

Hmm, alright thank you. I was just a bit confused because I used to get higher fps, albeit less stable, with my fx 6300 and gtx 950
