I just wanted to express my gratitude for suggesting contacting Noctura regarding the Free Mount kit for AM5... They agreed and it was shipped out today without any extra cost.
I purchased my Noctura D15 back in 2019 and this November when I bought a new CPU, they treated me well.
It seems worthwhile to me. It’s just a small detail—I know the mount but it’s nice to confirm I can keep using my Noctura NH-D15 with the new chip. I’ve read many reviews about other coolers, and it looks like this one is quite solid. I bought it five years ago, and the lifetime warranty was a great bonus I didn’t realize existed.
Thanks again. I’m still evaluating Mobos. Maybe I’ll try an MSI board. I’ve always liked Asus, but some reviews suggest their customer service has declined. I’m not sure what else I need except x3-x4 M.2 slots and a lot of USBs in the back. Right now I use an Asus Maximus Hero XI (WiFi) board, which I really like—it’s user-friendly and the BIOS update was simple.
I’m mainly searching for a Mobo that will last a long time, offers flexible slot options, and fits my mid-tower case.
I recommend the Asrock X670E Steel Legend as a suitable motherboard option.
Isn't the AsRock x670E Steel Legend discontinued? For mobos, I'm reviewing all these boards and unsure what I need beyond x3-x4 m.2 drives that are easy to access and flexible for future upgrades. As long as they offer the same number of USB ports or more, it works with my current board and handles the Ryzen 7 9800x3D fine. Also, with the m.2 slots, the screws always feel too tight and difficult to remove from the last three mobos I owned in recent years. Plus, I don't mind RGB on my mobos—I just prefer a non-transparent case and generally turn it off because I don't like it.
When M.2 drives are positioned near the GPU, it's usually the case that they get blocked. A retired motherboard can be fine if the cost is acceptable. The X670E Steel Legend comes with two M.2 slots far from the GPU, making them reachable. The slot beneath the GPU lacks a heatsink.
A downside of the Gigabyte model is having only one heatsink under the GPU for several drives, which adds inconvenience:

I am still searching for the right updates. I need to refresh the bios with a Ryzen 7 9800x3d. It seems I should also add five USBs, three M.2 slots, and possibly a BIOS Flashback on any motherboard I purchase. The terminology is really confusing. I keep checking various options and not sure which one fits best, but I want to install my new CPU onto the new AMD Noctura D15 cooler mount, add the latest RAM, and connect my graphics card. I’m curious about PCIe x2 M.2 drives and what a PCI Express slot with an M.2 slot really means. Having enough space for my RAM under the cooler would be ideal. I’ve been researching these models: MSI MAG X870 TOMAHAWK WIFI AM5 ATX, MSI x670E Mag Tomahawk Wifi, ASRock X870 Steel Legend WiFi 7 with AMD Ryzen Socket AM5, ASUS Republic of Gamers STRIX X870E-E GAMING, and MSI MPG X870E CARBON WIFI.
Curious about the duration between your initial contact with the free mount and its delivery to your mailbox. I might need to verify this myself. Did you think it originated from Austria to the US, and did you have to provide an invoice or a picture of your AMD CPU?
