I mainly use it for gaming, but I also need Kali Linux running smoothly in VirtualBox. I experienced some BSODs during gameplay earlier.

You have access to the 5700 non-X system with gaming performance similar to the 3700X, which is the nearest CPU found in current consoles. This should allow it to run games at console-level speeds. However, increasing RAM won’t significantly boost performance in most titles, as most games don’t utilize more than 16GB of memory. Are you satisfied with the gaming experience you’re receiving? Running Linux inside a virtual machine isn’t particularly resource-heavy. It’s possible you haven’t turned on virtualization in the BIOS—most motherboards disable it by default. I’d recommend checking those settings. Regarding the BSODs, they might be related to the RAM configuration. Are you applying XMP profiles for the slower stick? The 18-20-20-38 timing?

It might help if XMP was enabled for the slower stick, but it’s unclear if that would fix the BSOD.

When RAM sticks have varying timings, the CPU automatically adopts the slowest stick and uses its settings for all others. XMP and its AMD equivalent are seen as overclocking and can reduce performance. Turn off overclocking to observe changes in system stability.

It's only $50 for a 3200 MHz, 32GB package. You'll notice a noticeable improvement in performance when running your files at optimal speeds, plus having extra RAM should be a great advantage.

I almost gave in and bought a 32 GB DDR4 kit (still have 16 GB left), but I’m glad I didn’t because the game ran perfectly at 90 FPS with high settings. I was thinking about upgrading to an AM5 CPU since my Ryzen 5 3600 is old, but I figured AM5 is already three years past its prime and might wait for AM6 in a couple of years. It’s unclear if it’ll make a difference, but saving money by testing games or software before buying hardware seems smart—there’s a chance you might not need more upgrades after all.
