Hello! I'm switching to Gig speed and aiming to avoid the built-in modem. I'm looking for the best value under $200, focusing on features without mixing products. I'm currently using Google WiFi mesh routers and would like alternatives that fit this budget. Thanks for your help!

A few Arris cable modems are gaining attention, though it's unclear if they're the top choice. Avoid purchasing used ones since they could cause connection problems. For more options, check the links provided.

They provide both Coax and Fiber options. For Coax, you'll likely need a Docsis 3.1 modem, which seems reliable based on what I've heard. Regarding Fiber, there aren't many alternatives if you're limited to those choices.

Recently discussing optimal solutions, it's clear fiber is the way to go. I agree with that. There are around three main modem models, but their reliability and user feedback vary quite a bit.

On fiber connections you must use the ISP hardware, it’s not possible otherwise. Check the gateway’s web interface for bridge mode options, then configure your router with the standard settings.
