I’m searching for a co-op story-driven RPG Adventure that fits well with us since we live together. LAN gaming is an option for us. I’m not interested in an MMO; I’d prefer something where we can truly follow the narrative. A game with magic sounds appealing, but we’re also open to a simulation-based title!
Edit: Looking for a 3rd or 1st person adventure, not puzzle-focused. We enjoy Portal 2 but are more interested in an open-world experience.
Thank you very much for your suggestions!

I play less frequently, yet Portal 2 offers a dual-player feature.

Saints Row III and IV support co-op play and include a narrative. You can quickly find Steam results using the Co-op filter, which displays only titles with two-player co-op options.

Astroneer isn't perfect for everyone, but it remains my top choice.

Any LEGO Game.
All you need is 1 somewhat OKish PC and two controllers. And that's it.
You have to play together to solve some puzzles and so on.
That's my recommendation.

The Borderlands series is a cooperative first-person shooter RPG set in a science fiction world. Borderlands 2 and the Presequel offer a more enjoyable experience with a richer narrative compared to Borderlands 1. Playing Minecraft in a shared environment can also be quite entertaining.

I'm in a comparable scenario, living with someone and enjoying cooperative gaming. Some titles that I think are worth checking out include:
All Borderlands games
Dying Light
Divinity: Original Sin 1 and 2
Styx
Dead Island series
