Referring to the previously mentioned titles such as Saints Row, Borderlands, Divinity: Original Sin, possibly Destiny 2, Warframe, Samurai Warriors, and Dynasty Warriors, I noticed they were all available for free at some point. The gameplay was enjoyable, and split-screen options worked well with Dynasty Warriors and Samurai Warriors.

A lot of powerful heroes and magic users used to hang out with my girlfriend during those times, probably 3 or 4 in hotseat mode. Maybe 7 has the same setup I remember… nowadays I mostly look for opponents online. Pbem play!

Divinity 2: Original Sin is great for pairs working together. If you're okay with something more similar to Diablo, Path of Exile could be a solid choice (it's also free).

I believe boys are into Bionicles these days.
World of Warcraft works well. Explore private servers for classic vibes. Try vanilla double date servers.
(It needs at least four players since the game is built for tough play and big groups.)
League of Legends is fine.
Borderlands.
Halo 2 Project Cartogropher could offer split screen. It’s free and runs on a laptop with a Pentium 3 and 60mb RAM. You should be able to use it.
Left 4 Dead series.
Rust is always enjoyable.
Fallout NV or Skyrim online mods.
Gears of War series.
I don’t know any popular survival games besides Rust that might be worth trying.
