Also, this ^ is quite amusing. Kubuntu, the heaviest desktop among the top two distros (after openSUSE), is surprisingly lightweight?

Gnome is actually more robust and slower than KDE right now. Still, I wouldn't suggest Kubuntu for an older machine. KDE works well with newer PCs.

Kubuntu performs exceptionally well across all platforms I've tested. It has consistently run smoothly since 2001 without any problems. A friend also successfully used it on a netbook.

It turned out quite simple. I even managed to set up a display manager on Alpine, and it's still significantly lighter. However, the installation steps aren't ideal for beginners in Linux or Unix systems.

I just set up Mate on my 4-5 year old laptop. It wasn’t a pig when it first came out, but wow, the speed jump from Windows 10 to Mate is amazing. (i7-2760qm, 12 GB RAM, 1 TB storage, built-in GPU). I’m excited to use it as a secondary device.
