Alright, I'll take it. I'm ready to try—probably later when things get more settled. Credentials aside.

SMB1 can't be turned off since SMB2 came with Server 2008/Windows 7. This poses a serious security threat due to incidents like WannaCry. They should consider alternative methods for file transfer, such as WinSCP if available. For the account problem on Server 2003, open Command Prompt and run "net user <username>". Verify the account is enabled, the password isn't expired, and review group memberships. Also confirm the user can access the share. In Windows XP, ensure you're using the right domain and format the path as COMPUTERNAME\<Username>.

Our POS system relies on the existing infrastructure we have in place. We’re currently limited by our current configuration. The database and connections are handled through Pervasive SQL IIRC. The POS software is Touchstone 2000, originally from Dimasys Inc., now owned by Infor.

I took a break and set up another spare XP PC to test the credentials. It turned out the same issues were happening there too. Since the credentials themselves were valid, it’s likely something else is causing the problem on that specific machine.
