It’s not clear why you wouldn’t get internet through the Ethernet cable. The issue might be with your setup or device configuration.

It's actually an access point, possibly a managed pro access point overseen by a central controller. Despite having two Ethernet ports, it's designed for high-speed connections (2Gbps) and doesn't switch between them. This equipment is part of a professional network that shouldn't be accessed otherwise unless you're authorized. If you're unsure or have questions about the access point, it's best to reach out to the IT team. An access point simply provides Wi-Fi connectivity, with routing handled by a router—either built into the modem or separate.

The PoE has an Ethernet cable attached, and using the other Ethernet input, I connect my personal router to it.

It's accurate, though the setup uses 802.1X Wi-Fi and I encountered issues connecting to it. My own router is working fine, so I went ahead and connected it instead. I’m not bothered by the IT team—they seem unreliable.

Protocols are established to stop that exact occurrence. They cannot be bypassed.

Still, avoid touching the access point. The best choice is to get a router with Wi-Fi and let it connect automatically. OpenWRT should be able to handle that.
