I have two older machines: a Pentium 3 with 51 MB RAM and a Celeron with 1.5 GB RAM. I’m looking for a stable OS with a graphical interface to run a web server for testing purposes. I’m okay with an older version, even ten years old, since I’m mainly interested in learning. Anyone have suggestions?

Linux distributions support web servers such as Apache and NGINX. A Celeron could work with newer versions like Lubuntu 14.04 or 16.04, but a P3 model is likely better suited for older releases like 10.04 or earlier, which helps maintain compatibility with current package updates like PHP.

Linux is the top choice, especially an Ubuntu-based system for optimal performance. If you need a GUI, I’d recommend Lubuntu.

That's exactly what you conveyed, just with a different tone! 😊

AntiX is a solid choice.

Trying to set up unbutu Lts 10.04 on a Pentium. First try: installation halted at 79% with no skip feature. Manually disabled the system. Second try: again stuck at 78% during "configure network" without any cable or adapter, system remains offline. No skip option available this time either. This issue has persisted for about half an hour. Edited October 19, 2018 by overther

It didn’t slow down immediately after the live CD, just performed okay. Now I’m retrying, but it seems to lag after 78% completion—about five minutes to hit that point. It’s been four hours since I started, yet it reached 81%. I’ll wait and see how it finishes. I might switch to another version, but I don’t have CDs left, so I’m stuck with this one until I get a new one. The Celeron decided it wouldn’t update anymore, leaving me with the Pentium.
