Which games have you been enjoying lately? What was your impression of those games?

Are there any titles you’re excited about playing? What motivates your interest in them?

Recently, I've been immersed in Transistor – it’s exceptionally well-designed and I’d certainly nominate it for Game of the Year due to its innovative gameplay. I also experienced some disappointment with Always Sometimes Monsters; it felt like a frustratingly poorly made RPG that unfairly penalized every decision. I’m just beginning Divinity, but as usual, I'm still struggling to grasp its mechanics.

Currently, I’m particularly interested in Dragon Age: Inquisition – being published by EA, I plan on purchasing it upon release. 😉 Star Citizen appears visually appealing, though I don't typically gravitate towards space simulation games; the prospect of pushing PC graphics is quite exciting. I am almost certain to buy Sims 4 – primarily for its character customization features (as a woman, naturally!). I haven’t yet tried Assassin’s Creed, but the newest version with its cooperative gameplay seems intriguing.

And you all?

Interested in returning to video games, particularly focusing on solo experiences. I’m drawn to titles like Quake series, Unreal, and Portal. Could you recommend anything released recently that emphasizes action and shooting rather than role-playing with a heavy emphasis on magic? 😉

I primarily enjoy solo gaming experiences. I’ve become completely engrossed in State of Decay lately; it’s a zombie survival title I purchased during the initial Steam summer sale and I’ve accumulated more than 100 hours already. Additionally, I'm playing the games included in the latest 2K Humble Bundle. I’ve thoroughly enjoyed Spec Ops: The Line, Bioshock Infinite, and Mafia II thus far. I recently completed a full playthrough of all three Mass Effect games, including every available DLC. These remain my absolute favorite games to date. The Elder Scrolls and Fallout series are tied for second place in my rankings, and I’m eagerly anticipating the release of the next Dragon Age installment.

Let’s not disregard Gabe’s frustrating behavior. I desire this, along with a fresh Fallout installment. Furthermore, I crave that same Fallout release combined with Mass Effect 4, and the upcoming Dragon Age game… honestly, simply provide me with these games and satisfy my wants!

USAFRet :
Looking to get back into gaming, but am VERY focused on single player.
Quake 1-3, Unreal, Portal.
Suggestions for something of this decade? Run and shoot vs RPG. Not into spell casting...
😉
I'm going to get banned for spamming the thread!
😀
Have you played the Mass Effect games? Well worth checking out if you like sci fi at all. Bioshock? Start with the first one of course. Half Life franchise? All are excellent in their own way even the original from 1998. If you can stand slightly dated graphics and like the idea of surviving the zombie apocalypse in your own way then I fully recommend State of Decay. Tried the Crysis games? The Deadspace series? Far Cry 3 and the Tomb Raider reboot were both very good. That's just off the top of my head. If you have any specific questions then ask away.

I started Mass Effect – I never managed to complete it; it seemed like mostly busywork. I struggled with the gameplay elements. It’s puzzling, but I couldn’t develop any emotional investment despite playing for over a day.

I thoroughly enjoyed my playthrough of Transistor, and I cherish the OST which I have on my phone – the vocal performances are exceptional.

I eagerly anticipate future releases from Supergiant Games; they genuinely impressed me with Bastion, a game I initially doubted based solely on its description.
🙁
I was completely deceived by that elaborate prank, and I desperately desire…
One title I’m anticipating is Dark Souls II, although it's already available, I haven’t purchased it yet due to its current price point. However, my desire for challenging, narrative-rich “true” RPGs with detailed environmental storytelling isn’t being fulfilled by the original Dark Souls now that GFWL eliminated the PC version.
😡
The second season conclusion of Telltale's The Walking Dead is also highly anticipated, and we know a third season will be released.
USAFRet :
I’m seeking recommendations for games from this decade – specifically, favoring run-and-shoot mechanics over RPGs, and without a preference for spellcasting.
😉
I recommend Bioshock 1 and Bioshock Infinite in that order; Bioshock 2 is underwhelming.
Spec Ops: The Line is noteworthy simply because of its delayed impact.
Far Cry 3
Dead Space 1 offers horror if desired, although the series progressively leans into action and adopts an EA-like approach (Microtransactions everywhere!).

Despite my demanding job, I also enjoy solo gaming experiences. Recently, I’ve been able to spend some time playing Far Cry 3; it offers manageable controls, stunning visuals, and a wide-open world. While it contains occasional technical issues that remain unresolved, they are more comical than frustrating.

Earlier this year, I immersed myself in Assassin's Creed Black Flag. It was truly remarkable—a captivating adventure, though somewhat different from its predecessors.

I’m uncertain, but I found Bioshock Infinite disappointing. This individual provides a compelling analysis with which I largely concur: http://www.gamasutra.com/blogs/EricSchwa...ession.php. Perhaps the limited availability of standalone PC titles contributed to the elevated reviews received by games such as Gone Home and Papers Please, both of which won PC Game of the Year in 2013.
