Sure, it sounds like the system is struggling with memory usage. Moving the mouse triggers swapping, making it hard to run anything smoothly. It might be better for lighter tasks like solitaire.

There are around 775 motherboards that can handle up to 8GB RAM, and I’ll give you an example of 4GB.

I just looked at the calendar and realized it's not April 1st. Who wants extra RAM like 4GB or even 8GB as a fix for the memory issue in 2026? Sure, there are good options—like an RTX 4080 or a GeForce 7800GT—but building one isn't practical. Just consider getting a budget PC and see how it performs with modern apps and operating systems. Be realistic; don’t expect a great experience from a cheap setup.

Figured it out why the ass-backwards motherboard design was made for a Gateway system. Keep it in mind with the "cow" vibe. The board sits on the opposite side, so everything is flipped—even with zip-ties and a pegboard, you still can't fit any add-in cards in the usual way. I'm getting a bit bored...

This price tag for a dual-core 3.5GHz Xeon seems high. A Core 2 Quad Q9550 offers better value and speed. It's not worth spending on a 771 server CPU if you can get a cheaper, faster processor for your budget. Many standard motherboards support quicker CPUs without needing expensive firmware tweaks. The power consumption of these Xeons is also much higher than consumer chips, which means you'd need a more costly cooler—possibly around $20 extra. LGA775 sockets are outdated for good performance and value, and finding a compatible cooler is difficult. For a solid build under $100, consider LGA2011 workstations. DDR3 RAM is still affordable compared to newer types, and you'll find PCIe 3.0 support on most boards. You can fit up to 16 cores and at least 32GB of RAM with the right setup.

This raises another issue—OP hasn’t done any research and doesn’t grasp what Socket 775 means. The board’s chipset only works with Pentium 4/D CPUs. Only a handful of those boards got microcode updates for early Allendale Core 2 Duo Xeons, but this definitely isn’t one of them. The 3.5GHz Xeon isn’t an Allendale model either. Therefore, the suggestions in this thread are poor choices—they won’t fit and can’t be combined.
