What kind of experience are you looking for when playing games?
Ben Heck's access controller is likely difficult to obtain nowadays.
You could swap a Logitech G13 joystick for an Xbox 360 controller and work around the change by recalibrating it since it’s a bit thicker. Use the side buttons for movement and actions like walking or reloading. Once set up, you’ll be able to play shooters and mobile games comfortably one-handed.
Can you hold a controller in any position? Even awkward angles? I’m thinking about taking apart a PS3 controller, maybe have someone assist, and remove the right rumble motor—or both if you’re comfortable. You can re-solder it later if you feel better. Ideally, use one of the original six-axis models without motors if you own one. This would ease the strain, and I’ve played games with a controller plus a mouse combo before—it’s really helpful.
Organize all your keyboard presses onto the numpad. Practice switching smoothly between the numpad and the mouse. I learned this after a broken finger, especially when playing WoT and CIV. The mouse buttons are perfect for quick actions like throttle control. I’d advise against tampering with your injured joint—your doctor warned you. I once drove with a casted foot and ankle, feeling terrible in the cold. Small movements helped it heal, but now it hurts a lot.
Playing games with one hand or arm is quite challenging, especially in MMOs. If you're using a mouse with many customizable buttons, you can manage the game with just your mouse, though it won't be very smooth. Without such a mouse, it's tough to handle effectively.
