Consider playing the version you originally purchased. Someone on Steam was asking similar questions, and after he bought KotOR 2, I advised him against it. I then bought him a copy of the first game with the condition that he try it beforehand. He followed that advice and recently completed KotOR 2 as well, thanking me for letting him experience both. KotOR 2 is enjoyable, but jumping straight into TSL can be a mistake, particularly if you're only interested in the movie. The original KotOR has a stronger Star Wars feel compared to the second.

I prefer the second one with the added content. The story is just more interesting imho. Now I want a KOTOR 3. Been waiting for it ever since the second came out. Now that my personal opinion is outof the way, they areboth among my favourite RPGs. Even to this day the storyline is amazing and the voice acting above any reproach. Also they both breath starwars. More than this new horrible star wars rebels animation.

The newest update surpasses KoToR, believe me—it's the same team behind it (Bioware). They mentioned that Knights of the Fallen Empire returns to the storytelling style of KoToR, enhancing its depth and making choices more impactful on the narrative. From someone who has played both KoToR, KoToR 2, and SWTOR, I can confidently say that this latest update in SWTOR is significantly superior to anything KoToR ever offered.

Bioware chose to develop Knights of the Fallen Empire, the newest addition in SWTOR. Many call it KoToR 3 due to its compelling narrative.

The appeal lies in the D&D elements that SWTOR lacks. It features MMO mechanics which I find unappealing. I’m seeking a solo Kotor 3 experience with stunning visuals and a compelling story. The emotional depth of these games motivates me to want richer interactions. Picture LA Noire’s facial expressions combined with Battlefront visuals, decision-making from Mass Effect and Star Wars. A refreshed combat system would work well if it retained the D&D style. If they updated it that way, I might stay in the job for a month.

The combat system is designed for MMOs, yet the Knights of the Fallen Empire narrative surpasses any KoToR plot. Still, KoToR was an excellent game, but I disliked its combat mechanics.
