Ballistix doesn't always include every JEDEC profile for gaming memory. They design the SPD to start up quickly, and most systems only support booting up to 2666. A 2666 is actually quite fast!

These are fairly outdated processors that can handle speeds up to 2133MHz (the 7700K supports 2400MHz). If you're aiming for 3000MHz or faster, it might be because their memory controller wasn't powerful enough to manage the rapid RAM speeds. Were you trying to enable XMP profiles for 3000MHz+?

Bruh, the 6700K model back then could reach up to 2.666 on XMP. By late 7700K, 3 GHz XMP was added, but buying one was a waste of money at that time. My cousin didn’t get it until early, when he wanted to upgrade his PC. Most boards didn’t support 3 GHz+ XMP—my MSI Z170 only worked with the Z270. Your story doesn’t match reality. I had two memory kits fail due to XMP and couldn’t even POST with stock. I don’t have much more to say since I no longer own that unit. That was the Coffee Lake memory kit era.

It doesn't indicate whether they were listed in the spec sheet or if they performed well during Skylake's release. You're wondering if 2.8, 3, and 3.2 were available at that time.

Typically, the actual speeds are around 2133–3200 MHz, depending on the RAM model. Some RAM can reach up to 3200 MHz, but usually it's a bit higher like 4000+ for XMP. You can often find faster RAM options that cost less if you need a slightly higher speed. If your RAM fails during overclocking, it might not always be the memory itself—issues could also stem from the motherboard or other components.
