Preview My three initial setups—Z77, Z170, and Z270—experienced XMP issues after two to three years, forcing a switch to JEDEC profiles. I had another PC (Z170) and rebuilt my cousin’s (Z270) system using an XMP-compatible RAM package, but I didn’t enable it. In reality, there were no problems, no BSODs, and no RAM failures outright. So XMP didn’t work for me at all.
Regarding JEDEC profiles: It operates smoothly at that speed, timing, and latency under 1.2V. The XMP version runs at the same speed, but with a higher voltage of 1.35V. You can adjust from MHz to GHz. Most RAM products actually list the base speed on their specs. Notably, Crucial’s JEDEC profile supports speeds up to 2.133 GHz, while Corsair’s offerings are primarily listed at 2.933 GHz or higher.
It’s clear that Intel’s XMP feature provides only a marginal boost—around 5%—unless you have memory that is extremely sensitive to speed and latency. Since the module sits directly next to the CPU, performance gains are minimal.
The main concern is that the base speed isn’t shown in the listings, which is unusual. I’ve checked Crucial’s and Corsair’s pages, but their entries focus on the original JEDEC rates.

I think it’s late enough for DDR4 to be considered end-of-life, so higher-speed sticks are more likely available. But even then, I’m not convinced about those cheaper ECC RAM options.
Instead of relying on an XMP profile, you could simply upgrade to faster RAM and adjust the system clock directly.
It's uncommon for a reason, possibly because exceeding a certain standard made memory makers easier to replace everything at 3200 MHz. If you purchase from Crucial's configurator and it fails (no profile exists for 1466/2933 on the 3200 stick), they likely need to issue a refund according to their terms.

Adjust the voltage, speed, and primary timing settings on the stick. Keep all sub-timings in auto mode so the motherboard organizes them. This should resolve about 90% of XMP issues (unless your RAM is too fast for the IMC to manage). Increasing voltage by roughly 200-500mV—meaning 1.37 to 1.4v if XMP is set at 1.35—will address around 9%. Minor problems (about 1%) are uncommon but tricky; they often stem from the motherboard rejecting the XMP profile or the CPU needing slightly more voltage.
that range is 0.2-0.5v 1.35v → 1.55v/1.85v the earlier value remains acceptable and is actually quite low for the cometlake imc, while the latter seems unrealistic unless you're pushing maximum frequency and/or extremely precise timing—I assume you meant 20-50mv = p, as with 2933jedec you'd just need some 3200c22 jumper sticks, whether heatspreader or standard bare green/black PCB, and it should likely auto-run at that frequency.

It's still operating at 1.35V. My Crucial Ballistix for the 10850K is set to 2.666 base, I suspect they don't offer 2.933. The Z77 model was using an i5, while the rest are at 6700K. My cousin's PC ran on 7700K. All of this assumes a successful POST, which seems unreasonable if 1.37V works—though it might be problematic later as it could fail and require adjustments to 1.39V. It's frustrating when a BIOS update or reset forces you to redo everything, wasting time. Also, changing the refresh rate at specific resolutions isn't ideal. Based on my experience, running it at stock settings and aiming for the highest-rated version is best. Yes, Kingston Value helped with my search, but most options are outdated or unavailable locally.
