Return to the console, log in, and install the custom NVIDIA drivers using "sudo apt -y install nvidia-driver-440". After that, reboot with "sudo reboot" — this should resolve the problem.

It didn't function properly, but the Ubuntu desktop window appeared in the shell. I'm unable to access it now.

Let the installer take care of overwriting the Ubuntu partition. All Linux systems allow dual-booting, since the main variations are mostly visual rather than functional.
