PS. I’m comfortable assembling a PC. I’ve put it together and reconfigured my setup at least four times without any problems. I also understand that I’ll have to replace the motherboard if I want current or older CPU models, but I don’t need help picking one.

Many false details circulate online. Intel CPUs from the 6th, 7th, 8th, and 9th generations use the LGA1151 socket, YET: 6th and 7th only function with 1xx/2xx motherboards (H110, B150, Z170, Z270, etc.). The 8th and 9th generations require 3xx chipset boards (H310, B360, Z370, Z390). Even though they share the same socket as earlier models, they won’t work on 1xx/2xx boards. The 10th and 11th gen chips use the newer LGA1200 socket and are compatible with 4xx chipset boards. This should help clarify things.

It's true, sharing the same socket doesn't always guarantee compatibility. Good observation!

It's been quite some time since I bought a CPU, and I didn't think about the chipset compatibility at all.

That would be hilarious, but it's actually on my card.

So you should get a new graphics card instead of upgrading the CPU. Your dad’s current setup works fine because it connects directly to the motherboard, but he only plays simple online games.

It's true, my PC functions well overall but some recent games cause performance issues. I'm certain my RTX 2070 is performing adequately, maintaining stable temperatures and using only moderate VRAM. The problem seems to be related to CPU limitations in certain titles.

I’d consider upgrading to an i7 or i9 since it seems like the problem might be with an i5 rather than a newer processor.
