Windows Media Player has several issues that affect your experience. It struggles with large music collections, often looping only a few tracks instead of playing them in order. It also misidentifies non-music files, such as Unity project sounds, and adds irrelevant album art to tracks. The latest version on Windows 8 doesn’t seem to fix these problems, and you’ve tried alternatives like Tomahawk and Winamp without much success. You might want to consider switching to a more reliable music player or exploring other options.

AMP3 works well for music... also foobar is an option... VLC offers flexibility... MPC-HC provides even more adaptability... Edit: All recommendations mentioned are complimentary... Someone continues to use WMP?

I composed an in-depth piece on mediamonkey, but the laptop malfunctioned once more—cursor failed to stay inside the text box, touchpad responded to wrist taps, and pressing backspace sent my browser backward. Here’s a link to a Lifehacker article: http://www.lifehacker.co.uk/2014/08/23/m...your-music

The only thing I've discovered is that you shouldn't hold too high expectations from Microsoft. You'll likely feel let down.

iTunes remains the sole desktop tool I've discovered that handles audio and video collections seamlessly within one application. It's not just about playback; it focuses on managing libraries effectively. While it has limitations—like the inability to span multiple partitions—I don’t see a better alternative. Many people assume it’s proprietary, but you can easily add custom content, and most formats are supported. Plus, everything is accessible across your iPad, iPhone, iPod, and Apple TV. What else are you looking for?
