I was just browsing Steam and enjoying the fact that almost every triple title gets an M rating. It’s funny how a strong story makes a game worth watching, right? Minecraft succeeded because it wasn’t rated M. I play some games with an M rating, but my parents keep a close eye on what I’m playing, probably because they’re “overprotective.” This makes me search for better quality titles, though honestly there aren’t many. A lot of these games seem to be aimed at older audiences, and it feels like the whole system might be broken since kids as young as eight are already playing M-rated games. I know this sounds like a rant, but it’s definitely an argument that needs attention from companies to create more suitable singleplayer and multiplayer options. Overwatch proves how successful it can be.

Games receive an M rating due to frequent complaints and the constant pursuit of lawsuits from companies over trivial issues.

It seems they might want to reconsider their rating system since many children play M-rated games. They could shift focus toward making violence more typical for teens and avoid linking sexual content, drug use, or alcohol to an M rating when these are common in real life.

Companies began rating games to provide a clear, standardized way for players to understand quality and make informed choices. This system helped differentiate games based on performance, features, and overall experience.

I’d go with Team Fortress 2, though it’s labeled M for reasons that don’t quite fit today. The harshest term you can use is either “dumbass” or the French word for “shit.”

This rating system exists for a specific purpose similar to film classification. We should rely on these tools, keep an eye on my son during gaming sessions, and since I’m a gamer myself, I’ll use my own way of categorizing games. Most parents aren’t familiar with gaming, so clear guidance is essential. Your biggest challenge is the shrinking gaming audience—most players are now over 30, whereas I was part of the original generation meant for younger audiences. Developers are targeting adults because that’s where sales happen. Stay positive; you’ll be around when it’s your turn.
