I contacted AMD about my CPU classification (R5 1600) because it was labeled as AF instead of AE, which the originals had. They said it should be a Pinnacle ridge (Zen+), but Windows 11 doesn’t accept that. I’m curious what’s required to fix this. My PC healthchecker suggested restoring and advanced options, but it reset everything. Did anyone else with a 1600 AF get Windows 11 legit without tricks? Is the AF model just problematic in Zen+? How did you manage it? Thanks for any help!

Activate ftpm/secureboot clean install from the installation media. Various options exist for using Windows Update, but those tried on a core 2 quad Q6600 without Secure Boot, UEFI, or TPM via Windows Update took some time.

Essentially a full reset? That wasn’t what I expected, but I might appreciate it later. I was counting on it being just something I needed to replace in the BIOS. Thanks!

I’m not able to install dev builds directly, but I can guide you through the steps for Windows Update.

If it’s going to be a bother, I’ll hold off until I can upgrade to a 3k series CPU. Right now it might just be next year. Hopefully, but thanks anyways.

Obtain a 5000 CPU unit; compatible with B450/B550 models, offering roughly 20% improvement in speed.

I'm not one of the first to try things, so I'm fine being a bit behind. The games I enjoy usually run smoothly on modest hardware.

It's still too late to rush in yet. Also, assuming the current trend continues, 5000 cpus will be more affordable and powerful—plus, you can get better performance by lowering the voltage if needed.

It seems the spec you mentioned might need a specific BIOS version. I wasn’t expecting that extra storage would demand one. I was hoping to use a more affordable 500-series drive instead. Swapping the whole BIOS could be risky, so I’m cautious about it.

It doesn't need a special BIOS setup. It's just a regular update like any other.
