Issues with network drives and folders
Hi, your Synology DS216J is working well with VPNs, and you're trying to share a single volume as a network folder on your laptop. The issue seems to be that some programs don’t function properly with network folders. It sounds like the solution would be to use a network folder, but you’re encountering compatibility problems. The forum question is tricky since it overlaps both NAS and networking topics. Let me know if you’d like help narrowing it down! Also, feel free to mention whether you’re in the NAS or networking subreddit for better guidance.
You're checking if the system uses a hostname instead of an IP address for network drive mapping. The hostname isn't routed through networks, so it won't function via the VPN.
You can rename it by selecting the current name and choosing a new one in the interface. If you need help finding the right option, let me know!
Turn it off, locate the IP address of your NAS, then reconnect using \\[ip] rather than \\NAS.
Wow, it functioned well; glad I didn’t have to fix this issue for weeks.
