Hi, your Synology DS216J is working well with VPNs, and you're trying to share a single volume as a network folder on your laptop. The issue seems to be that some programs don’t function properly with network folders. It sounds like the solution would be to use a network folder, but you’re encountering compatibility problems. The forum question is tricky since it overlaps both NAS and networking topics. Let me know if you’d like help narrowing it down! Also, feel free to mention whether you’re in the NAS or networking subreddit for better guidance.

Doesn't function properly. It operates correctly on a physical network connection? Could the issue stem from a DNS problem via your VPN?

You're checking if the system uses a hostname instead of an IP address for network drive mapping. The hostname isn't routed through networks, so it won't function via the VPN.

I'm not confident about the best place to look. You might want to verify it via Windows settings or the device manager.

It seems the connection isn't established when using a network drive, but it functions with a network folder instead.

The title indicates whether it's an IP address or a name.

You can rename it by selecting the current name and choosing a new one in the interface. If you need help finding the right option, let me know!

Turn it off, locate the IP address of your NAS, then reconnect using \\[ip] rather than \\NAS.

Wow, it functioned well; glad I didn’t have to fix this issue for weeks.

The VPN isn't correctly transmitting hostnames.
