I own a 6950xt that’s been performing well. It’s watercooled, and my hotspot temperatures stay around 71°C during intense games like Arc Raiders. Recently I had to play Fortnite and haven’t started the game in nearly a year. Before that it worked fine. It would crash after a few minutes into a match. Initially I thought it was an installation issue. After Helldivers 2, the problem persisted. I reduced render settings and it got less unstable, but still occasional crashes. When it failed while running Deep Rock Galactic, I realized something was amiss. At medium settings, RAM tests were clean. I reinstalled C++ redistributibles (or whatever they are) and nothing changed. My performance remains solid—GPU usage stays under 60 and CPU under 80. Here’s an Application Error from Event Viewer after the latest crash: Faulting application name: helldivers2.exe, version: 1.8.40770.0, time stamp: 0x697a483f; Faulting module name: ntdll.dll, version: 10.0.19041.6809, time stamp: 0x5d774f05; Exception code: 0xc000000d; Faulting package full name: ... I’m at my wits end and don’t know what’s happening. Maybe a full OS reinstall is the best option right now.

I previously rolled back several driver updates. It used to be common for me to revert to a more stable version, especially after installing the 480. Switching to a mature driver often resolved the issue.

All right, everything looks fine. I might get really upset if this doesn’t work out.

AMD needs more improvements before it reaches a stable version. That's just one of those oddities.

Played games recently and it kept failing. It’s stabilized compared to before—at least. Crash time has increased from about half to around three games. Looking at the Event Viewer, similar error messages appear. What might be causing this now?

Are you using W11 or W10 and is HDR active? W10 HDR sometimes leads to problems. For quicker fixes: -CMOS reset by shorting pins, not just removing the battery -Re-seat memory, which can resolve intermittent issues If the problem persists: ntdll errors suggest faulty memory handling or damaged files, possibly requiring a complete reinstall.

Check if your display is linked through the graphics card or the motherboard. Identify the specific motherboard model you have. Determine whether you need a riser cable to connect the graphics card to the mainboard.

Windows 10, no HDR. Performed CMOS reset and RAM re-seat. Still experiencing crashes. Planning to clear it out this weekend.

Linked directly to the GPU, featuring a 3440x1440p and a 1920x1080p display. An MSI MAG X670E Tomahawk WiFi not applicable—no riser cable needed. The unit sits in a rackmount enclosure; the waterblock slightly lifts on the side panel. I’ll work to fix this soon.
